Geoff Miller OBE
One of the country’s most accomplished cricketers who excelled for both club and country, Geoff Miller played 34 Test matches for his country and represented Derbyshire and Essex in a professional career that lasted 17 years. A former President of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Geoff has held many administrative and executive roles since retiring from the sport and is also an extremely popular cricket speaker. His instantly likeable personality and captivating career story are always a hit, and having spent the majority of his career playing in the 1970s and 80s he can shed light on how the game has transformed over the years.
Geoff made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in 1973 and it wasn’t long until he’d established himself as one of the team’s best players. Accomplished with bat and ball Geoff was regularly deployed as a spin bowler, and he made his England debut in 1976 in a Test match with the West Indies. His best series for England was the 1978/79 Ashes where he took 23 wickets – more than any English player. This went a long way to help England retain the Ashes over Australia, and in his capacity as one of the best cricket speakers, he can recall this success in vivid detail, answering audience questions along the way.
His final England match came in 1984, before calling time on his career in 1990. Since then he’s held many senior roles within the sport, with his insight highly respected by everyone within the game. In 2008 Geoff was elected as National Selector by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). In this role, Geoff and his fellow selectors were responsible for choosing players for major Test matches including the Ashes series.
