Jason Robinson OBE
A former England international rugby player who represented his country in both codes of the game, Jason Robinson is one of the most unique rugby speakers in the industry. A tricky wing or fullback, he also made history when he became the first-ever black player to captain the England rugby union team. In his capacity as an after-dinner speaker, Jason regularly discusses his successful career with audiences, highlighting the differences between the two formats of the sport and what it was like representing his country at the highest level.
Born and bred in Yorkshire, Jason began playing rugby as a child and signed for rugby league side Wigan Warriors. Making his debut as a teenager in 1991, he was a key part of the side that dominated British rugby winning seven league titles and five Challenge Cups. He also played 12 times for Great Britain and seven times for England on the international stage.
In 1996, Jason got his first taste of rugby union. As the sport made the transition to becoming professional, he joined Bath for 13 games before returning to Wigan. In 2000 he decided to make a permanent move to rugby union, signing for Sale Sharks. As one of the most insightful rugby speakers around, at all of his events, Jason can shed light on what prompted him to make this move.
Spending more than a decade in rugby union, he helped Sale win the Premiership title in 2006 and two European Challenge Cups. Undoubtedly his biggest achievement in rugby union came in 2003. Playing every game for England during the World Cup, he was part of the team that made history by winning the iconic trophy for the first time. In 2007, Jason retired from professional rugby after more than 15 years in the sport. Since then, he’s worked as a coach at the grassroots level for the RFL and was the head coach of his former club Sale Sharks for the 2009/10 season. In 2021, he rejoined the club as a non-executive director.
