Steve Hodge is a former professional footballer and Nottingham Forest legend.
What are Steve Hodge’s main achievements?
Over the course of his illustrious professional footballing career, Steve Hodge spent more than 15 years representing some of the biggest clubs in the land. This includes making more than 100 appearances for his boyhood club, Nottingham Forest, where he won two back-to-back League Cups.
A talented midfielder, he was also part of the Leeds United squad that won the 1992 First Division title, the last league champion prior to the formation of the Premier League. His excellent form at the peak of English football also saw him earn 24 caps for his country, representing England at two World Cups.
What is Steve Hodge best known for?
As well as his wonderful career that saw him play for clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and more, Steve Hodge is also well known for being ‘the man with Maradona’s shirt.’
Steve swapped shirts with the late, great Diego Maradona after England lost to Argentina at the 1986 World Cup. This was the shirt that Maradona was wearing during the iconic ‘Hand of God’ moment that has gone down in football history. He went on to sell the shirt at auction in 2022 for a record fee.
