If you’re organising any Commonwealth related events or want someone with experience of the Commonwealth Games for your next corporate engagement, the team at Evolve is here to help We’re home to a whole host of speakers, including some of Britain’s greatest ever athletes whose stories of the Commonwealth Games inspire audiences everywhere they go.
Derek Redmond
While he’s most famous for being part of one of the Olympic’s most iconic moments when he was helped over the finish line after pulling his hamstring at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, Derek Redmond is an athletics expert who is able to offer his views on this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
Throughout his career, Derek was a record-breaking 400m sprinter who won gold at both the World and European Championships. Unfortunately, his sporting career was cut short due to persistent injuries, but he’s since gone on to become a highly sought-after guest speaker, using the lessons he learned as a professional athlete to inspire, motivate and entertain audiences across the country.
From lessons in leadership to overcoming adversity and becoming resilient, Derek regularly displays these skills at his speaking engagements.
Paula Radcliffe
A legendary marathon runner who won the London Marathon on three occasions, the medal haul of Paula Radcliffe is extremely impressive. As well as World and European Championship wins, it includes a gold medal from the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, where she won the 5,000m.
One of Britain’s most recognisable athletes, as well as bringing a shimmer of star quality to your event, Paula has an abundance of fascinating anecdotes that she can share with audiences, including explaining how she remained motivated to reach the very top of her sport.
Gail Emms
Perhaps Britain’s most famous ever badminton star, Gail Emms competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2002 and 2006, winning gold on both occasions. At the 2002 Games in Manchester, she became champion in the mixed team event, while it was the mixed doubles where she found success in Melbourne four years later.
With a silver Olympic medal also to her name, when hired as a guest speaker Gail is able to discuss what it was like representing her country on the world’s stage, while also highlighting the troubles she came across once she retired from professional sport – including suffering from depression.
Gail is an incredibly versatile speaker, and as well as sharing her story she’s also a highly accomplished event host.
Mark Foster
A former World and European champion swimmer, Mark Foster won eight medals at the Commonwealth Games. This included two golds, both in the 50m freestyle events, at the 1994 Games in Victoria and the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Now, he’s established himself as one of the sport’s most highly regarded pundits and is sure to be found on swimming coverage at this year’s event casting his eye on all of the goings-on in the pool.
Away from sport Mark has also become a role model for the LGBT+ community. Coming out as gay in 2017 at the age of 47, he’s able to reflect on his struggle with his sexuality during all of his speaking events.
