The first woman to become a regular commentator on the BBC’s iconic cricket radio show Test Match Special, Alison Mitchell has spent her entire career breaking down barriers. A popular cricket and sports commentator, she’s one of the most recognisable voices in sports radio whose career with the BBC and beyond has seen her witness some of the greatest moments in sporting history. Alison’s career began as a part-time broadcast assistant at BBC Radio Northampton, before providing live sports reports for both BBC Radio Cornwall and BBC Radio Leicester. From here she went on to gain roles on all BBC national networks such as Radio 5 Live, Radio 1 and the World Service. A passionate cricket lover, in 2002 she joined the BBC Asian Network covering the sport. From here her career went from strength to strength.
After spending time providing commentary on some of the biggest Test matches, Twenty20s and Cricket World Cups, she made history in 2007 by becoming the first-ever woman to be a regular commentator on Test Match Special.
