Regarded as one of England’s best-ever rugby players, Bill Beaumont was a formidable lock who captained the team to a historic Grand Slam in the Five Nations in 1980. In total, he played 34 caps for his national team and made seven appearances for the British & Irish Lions. Bill’s career came long before rugby union was made professional and in domestic rugby, he played for Flyde, Lancashire and North of England. Undoubtedly his biggest achievement came in 1980 when England defied the odds to win the Five Nations Grand Slam for the first time in 23 years.
