She instantly went about a rigorous training regime to ensure she could cope with the treacherous conditions, as well as embarking on a number of fundraising activities to raise the £50,000 needed to secure a place for the expedition. Even with the odds being against her and despite having no previous mountaineering experience, in 2010 she completed the feat at the age of 22 – a British record at the time.
