Jack Nicklaus

Arguably the best golfer to ever play the game, Jack Nicklaus is an American sporting hero whose 18 Major victories place him among the sport’s all-time greats. Competing in 164 Major tournaments, more than any other player, he ranks third on the list of most PGA Tour victories. His tally of 73 wins places only Sam Snead and Tiger Woods ahead of him.

Jack’s original life plan was to be a pharmacist like his father. Studying pre-pharmacy at university, he represented Ohio State University in golf. Becoming captivated by the sport, he decided to make a go of it, becoming professional in 1961. He made an instant impact, and the following year won his first Major trophy at the 1962 U.S. Open. Jack never looked back and earned the nickname ‘Golden Bear’ after an Australian journalist coined the phrase due to his big physique and bright blonde hair.

More success followed, and in 1970, just eight years since turning pro, he completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Open Championship – meaning he’d now won every Major event available to him. In his capacity as a keynote speaker, Jack can discuss his career successes at length adding great stories and unknown tidbits much to the delight of audiences.

As if one Grand Slam wasn’t enough, he went on to complete it twice more. The final part of his Triple Grand Slam came in 1978. His last Major came in 1986 when he won the Masters for the sixth time. His overall tally of 18 Majors remains a record, rightly placing him in conversations of being the best player ever. He also played in the Ryder Cup six times, winning five consecutive titles from 1971-1981.

Following his senior career, Jack ceased playing professional golf in 2005. While he still plays for fun, his career since retirement has been focused on course design. A hobby he had during his playing days, he’s been able to dedicate more time to it since retirement and to date has designed golf courses in the USA, Asia, Europe, Australia and more.
