A talented batsman who played 52 Test matches and 18 ODIs, Mark Ramprakash’s career lasted 25 years and saw him become one of the most prolific run-scorers of his generation. Only one of 25 players in the sport’s history to score 100 first-class centuries, since retiring from professional cricket he’s worked as a coach in both the international and domestic game, as well as becoming one of the most highly sought-after cricket speakers in the business.
Mark’s career began with Middlesex in 1987, and he earned the nickname ‘Bloodaxe’ due to his short, fiery temper. Over the years he mellowed and became much better at dealing with his frustration when things were not going his team’s way and in 1991 he made his England Test debut in a match against the West Indies. In the domestic game, he also represented Surrey and was the first man to captain both Middlesex and Surrey.
