Martin O’Neill has spent a lifetime in professional football, achieving unprecedented success as both a player and manager. His career began in 1971 at Nottingham Forest where he became a club legend, playing more than 250 matches for the East Midlands club.
Under the stewardship of the legendary Brian Clough, he was part of teams that won the 1978 League title, two League Cups and, two historic, back-to-back European Cups in what was the club’s golden age.
On the international stage, he played 64 times for Northern Ireland and captained the side at the 1982 World Cup.
After retirement, Martin became a manager, taking charge of some of the biggest clubs in the UK. At Leicester City, he consolidated the Foxes’ Premier League status and won two League Cups. At boyhood club Celtic, he won three League titles, three Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup. He also took charge of Aston Villa and Sunderland before spending five years as manager of Republic of Ireland, helping the team qualify for the 2016 European Championships.
