Mika Hakkinen
A two-time Formula 1 World Champion, Mika Hakkinen is one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all-time, whose stellar career saw him write his name in motorsport folklore thanks to his formidable battles with Michael Scumacher and others.

Born and bred in Finland, Mika is one in a long line of Finnish drivers to become stars of Formula 1. As a child Mika was mad about sports, including football and ice hockey. Aged five, his parents rented a go-kart for him to enjoy at a track near their home and he was hooked. He won his first karting race in 1975 seven, and never looked back.
Flying through the junior classes, Mika clearly had that cutting edge needed to succeed behind the wheel. In 1991, he made his Formula 1 debut for Lotus in the United States Grand Prix, qualifying a respectable 13th out of 30. In two years at Lotus, Mika established himself as one of the sport’s biggest talents, but it was with McLaren where his potential was truly fulfilled.
He joined the team in 1993, and was soon competing for podiums and wins. His maiden victory came in 1997 at the European Grand Prix. The following year he really came into his own. Launching a title challenge, he won eight races winning the title with an impressive 100 points. The following year he faced challenges for his crown from Ferrari’s Eddie Irvine, but was still able to win five races and clinch the title by two points.
With over 150 race starts and 20 victories to his name, Mika is one of the most recognisable personalities in the world. It’s not often you can say that a Formula 1 world champion has attended your event, making him one of the most highly regarded motorsport speakers around.
Upon retirement from Formula 1 in 2001, Mikka spend time racing in a number of events including the Finnish Rally Championship, Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and more before calling time on his motorsport career officially in 2008. Since then, he’s worked as a popular commentator and pundit in a variety of motorsport championships – particularly Formula 1.
