Phil Tufnell
One of the greatest bowlers to ever pull on an England shirt, Phil Tufnell took over 1,000 wickets in a hugely successful career, including 121 in Test cricket for England. Representing his country in 42 Test matches and 20 ODIs, ‘Tuffers’ as he is affectionately known within the game became well-known for his cheeky chappie persona and hilarious personality that saw him earn a reputation for being a prankster among his teammates. Phil’s cricket talent was first noticed at school, and upon leaving education he had a choice to make. Train as a quantity surveyor or make a go of it as a professional cricketer. Joining Middlesex in 1986, his ability as a slow left-arm orthodox bowler became integral to the team’s success and in 1990 he made his England debut in the Boxing Day Test against Australia in the Ashes. Since retiring in 2002, Phil has worked as a cricket pundit for the BBC on numerous radio shows including the iconic Test Match Special.
