Rishi Persad is a popular sports television presenter who has spent his career covering some of the biggest sporting events in the world. Specialising in cricket and horse racing, Rishi fronted England’s tour of India in 2021, working alongside some true cricketing greats in the studio.

Born to Indian parents on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, in his youth Rishi was a huge fan of both cricket and horse racing. Rishi’s father was a horse breeder and would allow his son to work and spend time in the stables while growing up. At the age of 12, Rishi and his family moved to the UK, and upon leaving school earned a law degree from King’s College London. But, it became clear to Rishi that sports journalism was a passion he was keen to pursue and he spent time in a public relations job before joining the BBC in 2003.
In his BBC role, Rishi found himself working as a reporter on some of the biggest events in global sport. This included the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Wimbledon, the Ryder Cup, World Snooker Championship and much more. Quickly establishing himself as one of sports’ most recognisable TV presenters, when hired as a host, he seamlessly transitions from the TV screen to event hosting, with his slick presenting style and natural charisma always a hit.
Rishi went on to become one of Channel 4’s main horse racing presenters, fronting coverage of his passion. He was involved in reporting on some of the biggest races in the sport and was the interviewer who legendary jockey AP McCoy informed of his retirement. Having previously covered cricket for the BBC during the 2011 Cricket World Cup, he was in charge of Channel 4’s live Test coverage of England’s tour of India in 2021. This meant that Rishi now covers two of his favourite sports at the highest level, a fantastic achievement that demonstrates his presenting abilities.
A trailblazer for up-and-coming TV presenters, in 2020 Sky Sports aired the documentary, Rishi Persad: Leading the Way where he discussed his route into broadcasting and the importance of promoting diversity within horse racing.
