Who is Rory Sutherland?

Rory Sutherland is a British advertising executive, author and speaker. He is Vice Chairman of Ogilvy UK and Founder of its behavioural science practice.

Rory Sutherland has spent his career at Ogilvy, rising to Vice Chairman of the UK operation. In 2012 he established the agency’s behavioural science practice, applying insights from psychology and economics to marketing challenges rather than relying solely on traditional advertising methods. 

Rory served as president of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising from 2008 to 2012. He is author of Alchemy: The Surprising Power of Ideas That Don’t Make Sense, published by Penguin, which argues that human decision-making is driven by perception and psychology rather than pure logic. He also co-authored Transport for Humans with Pete Dyson, examining how behavioural science can improve transport design and planning.
