Roz Savage MBE

An English rower, writer and passionate environmental activist, Roz Savage made history by becoming the first woman ever to row solo across the World’s three biggest oceans – the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian.

As well as this, Roz holds four Guinness World Records and in recent years has earned a reputation as one of the industry’s most popular adventure and exploring speakers. Frequently found attending events up and down the country, she uses her platform to share her experiences and provide lessons on resilience, courage and overcoming adversity.

Spending her early career working as a management consultant, in 2000 she found herself on a train and wrote two obituaries for herself. One for the life she was living and one for the life she truly wanted. This was a moment of clarity for Roz, and following the trip, she made the courageous decision to drastically change her life including leaving her husband and giving up her steady income and house in the suburbs. In 2003 she trekked the Inca ruins and spent months travelling in Peru.

Following her return from South America, Roz decided to take on the challenge that made her famous – deciding to try and become the first (and so far only) woman to row the world’s big three oceans. She completed the first leg of the attempt, the Atlantic Ocean in 2006, the Pacific was conquered in 2010 and the Indian Ocean was tackled in 2011. When hired as an adventure and exploring speaker, Roz can discuss this incredible experience with her audiences, motivating them to make significant changes in their own lives and follow their dreams.

Away from her rowing career, Roz has been a campaigner and fundraiser for several environmental causes including joining the board of Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation and being a Blue Ambassador for the BLUE Project. Furthermore, she can be frequently found championing plastic-free causes.

After concluding her final ocean row in 2011, Roz pursued a doctorate focusing on the challenges humanity encounters while transitioning to sustainable lifestyles. Her extensive research served as the foundation for her fourth book, titled “The Ocean in a Drop: Navigating from Crisis to Consciousness,” which was published in November 2022. Her book, Stop Drifting Start Rowing, uses her experiences to look at psychological functions that can help transform the outlook of individuals and organisations. Roz has also written for Forbes, Huffington Post and a variety of books and articles on oceans, conservation, adventure and more. In 2021 she launched the podcast Sowing the Seeds of Change, discussing sustainability, social structures and the future of human civilisation – issues she can address at her keynote speaking events.

Recently chosen as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Lib Dems in the South Cotswolds, Roz doesn’t incorporate politics into her corporate speeches. Nevertheless, she persistently motivates audiences to embrace courageous leadership, navigate uncertainties, and live purposefully.
