Sir Matthew Pinsent
During a rowing career that saw him win countless gold medals at both the Olympic Games and World Rowing Championships, Matthew Pinsent wrote his name into British sporting history. Widely regarded as one of the greatest rowers Britain has ever produced, he won four gold medals in four consecutive Olympic Games between 1992 and 2004. Now, Matthew can be found working as one of the most popular athletics speakers in the industry using his years of experience in the boat, to provide valuable life and career lessons to those in boardrooms and beyond.
Matthew began rowing as a student at Eton College, and after joining Oxford University to study geography, he won the iconic Boat Race two years in a row in 1990 and 1991. This was just a small sign of things to come, and while at Oxford he joined forces with Steve Redgrave as they raced together in the coxless pairs event at a number of competitions. It was a long and formidable partnership with success just around the corner.
In 1991 the duo won the coxless pair event at the World Championships in Vienna before becoming Olympic champions in Barcelona the following year. In 1996 the pair retained their title at the Olympics in Atlanta, before making the change to the coxless four event joining forces with Tim Foster and James Cracknell. More success followed, and in total Matthew ended his career with four Olympic golds and ten World titles to his name. When hired as an athletics speaker, Matthew is able to provide a unique insight into what it takes to compete at the highest level of international sport.
In 2005, a year after his final appearance at the Olympics, Matthew was knighted by the Queen for his services to the sport.
