Andrew Strauss OBE
One of the most successful England cricket captains of all time, Sir Andrew Strauss was a formidable batsman who was part of some of his country’s most iconic moments in the sport. In total, he played 100 Test matches for his country and 127 ODIs, establishing himself as one of England’s greatest players. In many of these matches he played as captain, and other than Michael Vaughan no other player won more matches than Andrew with the captaincy. Now working as one of the greatest cricket speakers in the industry, he can bring the leadership qualities he used throughout his sporting career to audiences everywhere. In 2019, he was made a knight of the realm for his services to cricket.
Born in South Africa, he and his family moved to the UK aged six and while at school he discovered his love for cricket. In 1998, he made his debut for Middlesex and also represented Somerset and New Zealand team Northern Districts in the domestic game.
In 2004, Andrew made his Test debut in a match against New Zealand. It wasn’t long until he’d become one of his country’s most prolific batsmen, and in total, he scored more than 7,000 Test runs. A year later, he was part of the England squad that won their first Ashes Series since the 1980s, in what remains one of the most iconic summers in English cricket history. Andrew more than played his part with an excellent century in the fourth Test, and during his excellent cricket speaking events, can share stories of this achievement with audiences.
Having previously deputised, in 2008 Andrew was given the Test captaincy on a permanent basis and captained the team to a 2-1 Ashes win in 2009. In total, he scored 474 runs, more than any other player. At all of his speaking engagements, he can discuss what it was like being given the honour of his country’s captaincy.
Having retired from the sport in 2012, he’s remained active in the sport and in 2015 became the ECB’s Director of Cricket, where he was responsible for the entire organisation including all of England’s international sides.
In 2018, Andrew tragically lost his wife to cancer. Since then, he’s started the Ruth Strauss Foundation in her memory, an organisation that offers support to families who have lost loved ones to the disease as well as racing money to spearhead research into a cure. One of the most inspirational cricket speakers around, at his events he’s able to discuss this dark time with audiences while using his platform to spread messages of positivity and support to those who need it.
