In September of 2012, a freak failure resulted in the umbilical cord which provides breathing gas, light and heat, to be completely severed. As a result, Chris was left on the seabed in complete darkness, 300 feet below the surface with only 5 minutes of breathing gas and no way to protect himself from the freezing temperatures. It took over 40 minutes for rescuers to fetch Chris, and his miraculous story of survival has left experts baffled ever since.
