The holder of a whole host of remarkable mountaineering world records, Nirmal Purja is a Nepalese and British mountaineer, who has established a reputation for being one of the world’s most iconic adventurers. Now, he’s taken his experiences from some of the world’s most difficult terrains and environments to speaking events across the country. Working as an inspirational adventure and exploring speaker, Nirmal regularly has guests hanging on his every word with his fascinating tales from a life in the mountains.
Over the course of his career, Nirmal has taken on some of the most fearsome mountaineering expeditions, including countless Himalayan ascents and becoming part of the first-ever team to climb the notorious K2 mountain during winter – when conditions are regarded as extremely dangerous. In his capacity as an adventure and exploring speaker, he can recall these experiences in vivid detail, leaving audiences in awe everywhere he goes.
Prior to becoming a full-time mountaineer and explorer, Nirmal had a successful career in the military. He joined the Brigade of Gurkhas in 2003 before joining the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Service (SBS) in 2009 – the first-ever Gurkha to do so. Despite not being able to go into detail due to The Official Secrets Act, Nirmal has previously revealed he took part in numerous war activities that Britain was involved in during his military career.
In 2021, Nirmal gained global recognition following the release of the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, which detailed his Project Possible 14/7 expedition. The bold challenge saw him scale all 14 8,000 metre summits in just seven months. This included mountains including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and many more. Along the way, he faced many extreme challenges and broke numerous world records and he completed the intense expedition in May 2019. During all of his adventure and exploring speaking events, Nirmal can speak about these experiences, and how he relied on resilience, determination and incredible willpower to achieve his goals.
